Description
Description
The Max Adjustable Rib allows you to adjust the angle of the rib to achieve a pattern percentage between 50/50 and 90/10 for trap-style shotguns and 50/50 and 70/30 for sporting-style shotguns. This adjustment lets you customize point of impact (POI) and sight picture, resulting in improved shooting performance and higher scores.

Point of impact (POI) is determined by patterning a shotgun and determining the relationship between where you were aiming and where the actual center of the pattern is. Point of impact above the actual aiming point allows you to keep the clay bird in view constantly — just above the rib — as you swing and shoot.
The standard point of impact for a trap-style shotgun is approximately 6-8 inches above the point of aim at 40 yards. For example, most Browning trap shotguns come pre-set from the factory with a POI that is 6 inches (15.25 cm) above point of aim at 40 yards. The standard point of impact for a sporting-style shotgun is approximately 0 inches (0 cm) above the point of aim at 40 yards.

Adjusting the Rib
Adjusting the Rib
The point of impact adjustment is on the front end of the rib and is adjusted by a thumbwheel located between the rib and the barrel near the muzzle (Figure 1). The thumbwheel has a spring detent that gives audible and tactile clicks as it is adjusted.
NOTICE: TAKE CARE NOT TO FORCE THE THUMBSCREW BEYOND ITS MAXIMUM UP OR DOWN TRAVEL.
Turning the thumbwheel clockwise lowers the front of the rib. For trap-style shotguns, when the front of the rib is at its lowest setting, the POI is 12 inches (30.48 cm) above point of aim and the POI percentage is approximately 90/10.
For sporting-style shotguns, when the front of the rib is at its lowest setting, the POI is 6 inches (15.25 cm) above point of aim and the POI percentage is approximately 70/30.
Turning the thumbwheel counterclockwise raises the front of the rib. When the front of the rib is at its highest setting, the POI is 0 inches (0 cm) above point of aim and the POI percentage is approximately 50/50.
When your desired point of impact is achieved, the rib requires no additional adjustment. The detent mechanism of the thumbwheel will retain your point of impact setting.
NOTE: Resetting your drop at comb measurements may also be necessary whenever the plane of the rib is changed to alter the point of impact.
