Sharp looking. The look of Damascus steel is practically legendary. It was the way high carbon blades were produced thousands of years ago and has stood the test of time, regarded today as a prize for the modern hunter. The handle scales are of genuine, natural stag. It is a classic look that never goes out of style and that makes a truly collectible (and functional) knife.
What is the point of Damasus steel? The blade on the Browning Illusion is made from a beautifully crafted, hot forged, layered Damascus steel. There are many excellent blade materials available today, but Damascus steel still retains the exceptional, time-proven cutting ability of alternating layers of high carbon and lower carbon steel. Layer upon layer, it is forged into one cohesive piece of steel. The lower carbon areas make sharpening easier and the high carbon areas hold a very tough edge. As wear progresses along the edge, Damascus blades are regarded for what some call "micro serrations" created by the different steel hardness. The result? Excellent cutting efficiency that may even improve over time as the knife is used.
