Concealed Carry Magazine Calls Browning 1911-380 “Royalty Reborn.”
This following is a review of an article in Concealed Carry Magazine by Ed Combs. The review below was written by Browning staff writer Scott Engen.
“Royalty Reborn.” The Browning 1911-380 has been getting plenty of attention in the firearm press of late, and a recent article by gun scribe Ed Combs titled “Royalty Reborn” in the November/December issue of Concealed Carry Magazine is an excellent example of the high marks the new reduced-scale 1911-style pistol has been getting from experts in the outdoor media. Browning (with no small amount of pride,) calls this new, Made-in-the-USA single-action autoloader “The Right 380.”
Combs kicked off his article by recounting his experience at the 1911-380 product rollout for selected members of the national gun press at Browning’s Morgan, Utah, headquarters earlier this summer.
“(The 1911-380) quickly endeared itself to my hand and heart…,” wrote Combs. “…an 85 percent-scale polymer-frame 1911 chambered in .380 ACP. The pistol is wheels-up with gear too, as the Browning 1911-380 is identical in size to the Browning 1911-22 and shares total grip, holster and accessory compatibility with its little brother.”

“The feel in the hand is, of course, total 1911: manual-of-arms, point of aim, trigger and safeties should feel familiar to anyone who is an adherent to The Browning Way – if JM (John Moses) designed it, it’s worth carrying,” continued Combs. “Not only does the Browning 1911-380 carry extremely light, but it also turned in zero failures to fire, extract, eject or chamber for the entire session. That’s five guns consuming over 2,000 rounds of ammunition, while being employed by seven different shooters, a test through which I do not believe many pistols would skate.”

“I believe John Browning would strongly approve of this pistol,” concluded Combs. “…He’d be humbled and honored, as this pistol is manifest proof that his design that became the 1911 remains the world standard for quality, simplicity and reliability.”
